Fire and Property Insurance has a rich history, tracing back to the Great Fire of London in 1666. There were reportedly more than 13,000 houses gutted in this fire and this devastation created the need to develop fire and property insurance on a fast track basis. Consequently, the first fire insurance company was established in 1681 by the name Insurance Office for Houses, which initially insured approximately 5,000 homes.
In the wake of this first successful venture, many similar companies were formed in the following decades. The fire and property insurance became a household name towards the end of 18th century in the developed market.
